“Cost of Care” student scholarship essay competition
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
- Current grade 12 high school students
- Current undergraduate students in any disciplines of study
- Students completing post-graduate degrees are not eligible
Essay Instructions
- The Canadian healthcare system prides on its public administration and universal accessibility which has long been considered a hallmark of Canadian values. In order to address recent fiscal difficulties, the Ontario government has been unilaterally imposing sequential funding cuts to physician services in 2015. How would this decision directly impact patient care in Ontario?
- Each participant may submit one essay of no more than 500 words. No joint entries are permitted.
- Any reference style is permitted however a minimum of 2-4 references is required.
- The submitted entry must not have been previously published.
Evaluation Criteria
Each entry will be judged by a panel consisting of medical students, residents, and staff physicians. Evaluation will be based on the following criteria:
- Originality of submission (30%)
- Structure and clarity (30%)
- Quality and accuracy of research (20%)
- Grammar/presentation/format (20%)
Awards
- One first place winner will be chosen with an award of $500
- Two second place winners will be awarded $250 each
- Up to five additional awards will be given ($100 each) for third place winners
- All winners will receive a certificate

- Please submit your entry as a .doc or .pdf attachment to info@mdconsultants.ca.
- In the email subject, please state “essay competition_your name”
- The deadline is December 31, 2015 at 11:59 pm EST. Late entries will not be accepted.
